A method and system for effecting the transfer of electronic funds includes a computer that is in electronic communication with an electronic payment device reader, with a funds source account and with a funds collection account. A funds transfer request is received from the electronic payment device reader, and a server, initiates the transfer of funds from the funds source account to the funds collection account in response to an action at the electronic payment device reader. An enhanced point-of-sale device is one of many types of electronic payment device readers that may be used to transfer funds between accounts in accordance with embodiments of the invention.
