摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength plate which realizes a liquid crystal projector which forms images of high luminance and high contrast by rotating a plane of polarization of polarized light to a prescribed angle in all the visible light region in the case that polarized light obliquely impinges on a transparent layer consisting of a phase difference film and to provide a polarization conversion element for the liquid crystal projector provided with the same. <P>SOLUTION: The wavelength plate for the polarization conversion element for the liquid crystal projector has a plurality transparent layers integrally laminated, out of which at least two transparent layers consist of phase difference films made of polycarbonate resin, and is used in the condition that an angle of incidence &theta;(&deg;) of polarized light impinging on transparent layers consisting of phase difference films is 0<&theta;<90, and a value of &beta; calculated by tan<SP>-1</SP>(tan&alpha;/cos&theta;) is 10 to 70&deg; where &alpha;(&deg;) is the angle formed between the plane of polarization of impinging polarized light and an optical axis of transparent layers. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
