PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems such as power reduction, drop-outs in the reproduction output of a magnetic recording and reproducing device which performs magnetic recording and/or reproduction due to the dust sloughing off or moving from another part (which is called a slough powder). SOLUTION: The device is provided with a cleaning mechanism 2 which scrapes the sticking powder on a magnetic recording medium. The cleaning mechanism 2 consists of a cleaning roller Rc which is brought into contact with a magnetic head and is separated from the head and a scraping blade B, and the blade B is constituted so that the ridgeline of the edge of the blade is extended in the axial direction of the roller Rc and the edge can slide along the periphery of the roller by the rotation of the roller. Thus, the slough powder on the magnetic layer of the magnetic recording medium which is moved from the magnetic head and stuck to the roller is scraped off by the blade and the power is prevented from moving from the cleaning roller and sticking to the magnetic head again.
