The method involves using the voltage drop in the load circuit (24) or across the load itself as a measurement parameter and applying temperature compensation to align the value with the value of the voltage drop across a reference resistance (30) with a very low coefficient of temperature. The temperature compensation of the measurement parameter is carried out in a microprocessor (28).
