An electronic control unit (1) comprises an electronic component (20), which must operate below a maximum temperature, in a housing (1). The cold side (40) of a Peltier element (30) cools the unit and the hot side (50) contacts a surrounding medium (100) which can exceed the maximum temperature. An Independent claim is also included for a gear comprising a control unit as above.
