APPARATUS FOR RAMAN AMPLIFICATION AND OPTICAL TRANSMISSION SYSTEM WHICH USES RAMAN AMPLIFICATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a broad band optical transmission system which compensates transition of the light power between excited light beams in Raman amplification and suppresses degradation in the transmission characteristics of the signal light.

SOLUTION: The system includes excitation light to excite the excitation light in a shorter wavelength side which supplies the light power to the excitation light in a longer wavelength side. This suppresses drastic damping in the excitation light in the short wavelength side and suppresses the accompanying relative degradation of the optical S/N in the signal light in the short wavelength side.
