<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for stably manufacturing nickel hydroxide powder coated with cobalt hydroxide adequate for use in an alkaline secondary battery by preventing the oxidation of the cobalt hydroxide when the surface of the nickel hydroxide particles suspended in an aqueous solution is coated with cobalt hydroxide. <P>SOLUTION: The pH of the aqueous solution is regulated to a range of from 10.5 to 13 and the potential of the aqueous solution is regulated to a range of from -600 to -100 mV with respect to a standard silver/silver chloride electrode when the surface of the nickel hydroxide particles is coated with the cobalt hydroxide by adding a cobalt salt to the aqueous solution in which the nickel hydroxide particles are suspended. The potential of the aqueous solution is regulated by supplying non-oxidizing gas, such as gaseous nitrogen, to the solution surface to shut off the intrusion of air into the solution or by adding a reducing substance, such as hydrazine, thereto. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
