<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the display contents become difficult to see due to reflection and dazzling since the conventional touch panel is formed by overlapping the touch panel on a display screen. <P>SOLUTION: A user interface suitable for a portable handheld electronic device (for example, a handheld computer or an electronic book) is disclosed. The user interface is provided with a first display area for displaying a plurality of display icons and/or menus and a pressure sensitive surface, the pressure sensitive surface is arranged (positioned) near the display area so as not to be overlapped in the display area.
