摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a video playback device capable of smooth fast-forward replay at controllable speed at fast-forward playback of high-efficiency-coded images recorded in a recording medium. SOLUTION: The video playback device includes an N-fold-frequency vertical synchronizing signal generator 18 for outputting an image readout signal; synchronizing signal generators 20, 21 for generating synchronizing signals; an image data expander 12 for reading out a high-efficiency-coded image data from a recording medium 11 and outputting an expanded image data; an image skip section 13 for selecting the image data output from the image data expander 12 at intervals of (N - 1) frames and outputting the selected image data; a buffer 14 for storing the selected image data; a D/A converter 15 for analog-converting the image data; and an image display 16 for displaying the image data.
