PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a reference signal for making a recording wavelength and a pulse interval which are to be recorded on a tape recording medium constant even when the traveling speed of the recording medium is changed. SOLUTION: In this magnetic recording device, a recording head 13 and a reproducing head 15 are arranged in the traveling direction of a recording medium 11. A recording and reproduction control part 29 prepares a recording pulse signal in a waveform shaping part 19 with the instruction of a start instructing part 17 and outputs it to the recording head 13 via a changeover part 21 and a recording amplifier 25. The recording head 13 records the recording pulse signal and the reproducing head 15 reproduces it as a reproduction signal. The control part 29 shapes the waveform of the reproduction pulse signal in the waveform shaping part 19 and forms a next recording pulse signal and outputs it to the recording head 13. A reference signal forming part 23 locks an oscillation high frequency which is oscillated in the inside by the phase of the reproduction pulse signal and outputs it as a reference signal.
