PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic control device of an automatic transmission capable of obtaining a successful response in fastening a friction element. SOLUTION: Relief valves 3a and 3b disposed in first oil passages a1 and a10 communicate communication ports 51a and 5ab of a valve 5 with drain ports 50a and 50b in discharging oil pressure from hydraulic servos 6a and 6b, and block the first oil passages a1 and a10 to hold oil in oil passages between the hydraulic servos 6a and 6b and the relief valves 3a and 3b.Therefore, thanks to filling of a predetermined oil in the first oil passages a1 and a10, the oil pressure can be speedily supplied to the hydraulic servos 6a and 6b in supplying the oil pressure, and response times of the hydraulic servos 6a and 6b can be stabilized.Successful response is obtained in fastening the friction element by the hydraulic servos 6a and 6b.
