<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium which has the same capacity as that for DVD-ROM, and ensures an enough degree of modulation even in a range of recording speed of 1.0-10 times or more (approximately 35 m/s or more) in a recording linear speed, and has high repeating characteristics, high storing reliability and good DOW characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: A recording layer 3 is the optical recording medium for recording information by utilizing change of optical properties in phase transition between a crystallization condition having a single or a plurality of crystalline phases including at least one metastable crystalline phase and an amorphous condition consisting of an amorphous phase. Composition of the recording layer 3 is expressed by a compositional formula Ag<SB>α</SB>Sb<SB>β</SB>(wherein α and β are respectively in a range of 40≤α≤75 and 25≤β≤60 by atomic ratio (wherein α+β=100)).
