<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system or method that aids a nonnative speaker in preparing a document without collocation errors, and a method that constructs a collocation error pattern or template database. <P>SOLUTION: In one word alignment process, a source language input sentence 350 and an example 360 under consideration are input to a first alignment component which operates as a bilingual dictionary aligner 362. The aligner 362 describes how two words in different languages can possibly be translated into each other. The bilingual dictionary aligner 362 establishes high-confidence single word anchor points which are direct word translations from the source language input sentence 350 to the example sentence 360. These can be used later during phrase alignment.
