PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inexpensively realize an image reader and an image processor, in which the stable operation of a light source can be guaranteed while more shortening a period of time required for completing procedures, namely the generation of black correction data, the lighting of light sources, the generation of white correction data and the reading of original from the generation of a reading start signal. SOLUTION: A series of following operations are carried out by means of an ADF control substrate independent from a main body control section when starting up a power source through: starting the operation by a reading start signal generated by the ADF control substrate; firstly, reading black data by n-numbered line portion by means of a contact type image sensor during a light source lighting outs period L1 for generating the data for black correction, then lighting a major light source and an auxiliary light source; repeating the flashing operation of the light sources for a period L5; increasing the starting voltage of the light sources; promptly stably emitting light in reading a standard white board (SLEAD: a reading range signal) after the period L5 and manuscript (SSCAN: a reading range signal) reading.
