PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile machine that can prevent binary image data in a binary mode from being produced in mistake and transmitted regardless of the case that multi-value image data in a photographing mode are to be produced and transmitted. SOLUTION: The operating flowchart of the facsimile machine includes: a step S13 of reading an image of an original; a step S16 of producing binary image data in the binary mode (YES in S14); a step S17 of encoding the image data; a step S19 of detecting an information amount of the encoded image data, a step S21 of discriminating whether or not the information amount is a prescribed threshold amount or over; a step of S25 of accepting whether the image data are to be transmitted while keeping the binary mode or the image is captured again in the photographing mode and the multi-value image data are to be transmitted when the information amount is the threshold amount or over (YES in S21).
