PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording device capable of erasing a file by one operation and undeleting an erased file while effectively using a memory capacity. SOLUTION: This data recording device designates the file to be erased from a memory card 11 according to a file erasing operation by an operation key 8, and moves the designated file to a prescribed temporary erasing holder. When recording data, the residual capacity of the recording area of the memory card 11 is calculated to determine whether a series of data to be recorded are recordable or not. When determined to be recordable, the data are written in the recording area. When determined not to be recordable, the file contained in the temporary erasing holder is erased, and the data are then written in the recording area. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
