PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water absorbing knitted fabric having excellent perspiration treating properties and unconventionally high negative ion effects and further antimicrobial properties and moisture absorbing and releasing properties. SOLUTION: The water absorbing knitted fabric is a knitted fabric of a multilayer structure comprising filament yarns and/or spun yarns composed of cellulosic fibers containing bamboo fibers. The knitted fabric has water absorbing properties as follows. The ratio of water retention percentage of water absorbing right and back surfaces of the right surface layer of the knitted fabric to the back surface layer thereof is≥2 times and the diffusion area ratio of the water absorbing right and back surfaces is≥2 times. The cellulosic fibers account for≥10% in the area of at least one surface of the knitted fabric. The knitted fabric has properties of generating≥1,000 ions/cc of negative ions from the knitted fabric. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
