PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a linear actuator in a compact structure and improve handling properties during assembling and packing. SOLUTION: The linear actuator comprises a driving rod 2, a driving means 3 for rotating the driving rod 2 on its axis, a driven body 4 engaged with the driving rod 2 in a locking state and being movable to an axial direction with rotation of the driving rod 2, and a moving position detection means 5 detecting a moving position of the driven body 4. The moving position detection means 5 comprises a position detecting member 7 rotating on its own axis in proportion to the rotation of the driving rod 2, a detected portion 8 provided on a predetermined position of the position detecting member 7 in a peripheral direction, and a position detecting portion 9 detecting the detected portion 8.
