PURPOSE: A method for providing number information using a short message service in a mobile communication system is provided to convert number information transmitted from a terminal or a number guidance device of a transmission side into a message format of the short message service and transmit number information to a mobile communication terminal of a receipt side. CONSTITUTION: In case that a transmission side in which a channel is formed with a mobile communication terminal of a receipt side is a general telephone, a DTMF(Dual Tone Multi Frequency) tone is recognized and number information is extracted(S202,203). In case that the transmission side is the mobile communication terminal, a send message DTMF message is recognized and number information is extracted(S204). A data converting device inserts extracted information into a callback number field with a short message format, and transmits number information to a short message service center(S206). The short message service center transmits a number information message with the short message format to the mobile communication terminal of the receipt side using a data burst message of a traffic channel through a mobile switching center(S207).
