PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an aluminum composite superior in abrasion resistance and vibration damping capacity. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the aluminum composite 4 comprises forming a preform 1 through preform-forming steps of mixing alumina fibers 5 and graphite 6 or activated carbon 11 with an inorganic binder, in water, dehydrating and forming it, and then sintering and forming it in a vacuum, in an inert gas atmosphere or in a reducing gas atmosphere, at a predetermined sintering temperature; and impregnating the aluminum alloy 2 into the preform 1 by compression casting in an aluminum impregnation step. Thereby, the method prevents oxidation and burning out of graphite 6 or activated carbon 11 in the preform-forming step, and provides the aluminum composite 4 showing superior abrasion resistance and vibration damping capacity.
