PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus having a simple structure, which is provided with a large thermal capacity while suppressing an inrush current caused when starting power supply to halogen heater lamps. SOLUTION: First and second halogen heater lamps 2 and 3 having different rated electric powers are connected in parallel, and a bimetal switch 4 is connected in series to the second halogen heater lamp 3, and they are incorporated in a heat roll 1. Rated electric powers of the first and second halogen heater lamps 2 and 3 don't require countermeasures against flicker occurrence, and the rated electric power of the first halogen heater lamp 2 is set to a value higher than that of the second halogen heater lamp. When heating of the heat roll 1 is started, only the first halogen heater lamp 2 is lit to heat the heat roll 1. When the heat roll 1 is gradually heated to reach a prescribed temperature, the bimetal switch 4 is turned on to light the second halogen heater lamp 3, and the heat roll 1 is heated by them.
