PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wireless communication system whereby the decoding characteristics of a receiver side can be enhanced so as to improve the throughput of wireless communication. SOLUTION: A wireless receiving apparatus 151 receives radio waves R1 to R3 via different propagation paths and applies time-space decoding to received signals on the basis of propagation path characteristics corresponding to each pair of transmission antennas 102-1 to 102-3 of a wireless transmission apparatus 101 and a reception antenna 152 of a wireless reception apparatus 151 to extract information. When a failure of packet transmission is confirmed as a result of the time-space decoding, the wireless receiving apparatus 151 informs the wireless transmission apparatus 101 about a NACK signal and information related to the characteristics of each propagation path. The wireless transmission apparatus 101 decides a transmission method such as an encoding method of retransmission data packet retransmission, a puncture pattern and an interleaved pattern of the retransmission data, a transmission power, or the number of antennas used for the transmission based on the information of the propagation path characteristic.
