A device for adjusting the return force on a motor vehicle accelerator pedal dependent on a vehicle driving parameter, e.g. vehicle velocity or distance between the vehicle and a vehicle in front. Accordingly the spring force is varied by alteration of the spring constants of the pedal return springs (6, 7, 10, 11) in a stepwise manner when the actual value of a parameter varies from its set value.
