The winder (4) is offset to one side, relative to the thread guidance unit (22). Between thread winding direction change-overs, an asymmetrical thread triangle (26) is described. Its shorter limb (23) corresponds with winding onto the larger diameter (D) of the cross-wound, conical spool (11). The thread winding change-over point (31) on the larger diameter (D) in the plane of the thread path, lies directly above the thread guidance unit (22). For thread winding change over, a thread guidance finger (5) is used. To turn the cross-winding spool, a pressure- and drive roller (6) or thread guidance drum (27) is used. This has a single motor drive.
