In a single-railed overhead transportation system, a main rail 1, a switch tongue 4, and junction rails 5, are all formed from circular pipes of common diameter, the switch tongue 4 being connected via a junction-piece 8 of the same diameter as the pipes, to the main rail 1 by a cardan or ball-joint 2, the parts 2<SP>1</SP>, 211 of which are of smaller diameter than the external diameter of the pipes. The joint 2 is covered by a helical spring 3 or rubber or synthetic plastic tube having an external diameter the same as that of the pipes. The junction piece 8 has a pin 8<SP>1</SP> to fit into the pipe 1. The free end of the tongue 4 is cut away on its underpart to permit engagement over a junction pin 5<SP>1</SP> in a junction rail 5. The tongue is also provided with a handling grip 6. Each rail 5 has a spring-loaded bolt which projects upwardly and acts as an end stop when the tongue 4 is removed from the rail 5, as described with reference to Fig. 3 (not shown). |
