PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrothermal reaction apparatus which sufficiently mixes substances to be reacted with an oxidizing agent and disperses the mixture uniformly in a reaction vessel and further efficiently starts, continues, and stops hydrothermal reaction even when the amount of substances to be reacted is varied. SOLUTION: The substances to be reacted containing a substance 13 to be treated, an auxiliary fuel 14, water 15 or the like are fed to supply devices 2, 3 and 4 from a supply path 11 for the substances to be reacted through branched supply paths L1, L2 and L3 for the substance to be reacted and the oxidizing agent is fed to the supply devices 2, 3 and 4 from a supply path 12 for the oxidizing agent through branched supply paths L4, L5 and L6 for the oxidizing agent. When the mixture of the substances to be reacted and oxidizing agent is fed to the reaction vessel 1 and hydrothermal reaction is carried out in a supercritical or subcritical state of water, valves V1-V6 are opened or closed to maintain difference in pressure between a pressure sensor D1 and a pressure sensor D2 in a specified range, and either one of the supply devices 2, 3 and 4 having respective discharging port areas corresponding to the amounts of the substances to be reacted is selected.
