<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-wavelength light source which can output broad band light with flat intensity distribution of light and the production cost and the running cost of which can be reduced. <P>SOLUTION: The light source is equipped with an input light source 1, a broad band waveguide 2 connected to the input light source 1, a nonreciprocal circuit 3 laid in the broad band waveguide 2, and a light exiting part 4 at the end of the broad band waveguide 2. The broad band waveguide 2 is provided with a structure comprising optical couplers 5a, 5b to input the excitation light and excitation light sources 6a, 6b connected to the optical couplers 5a, 5b, respectively, to supply the excitation light. The broad band waveguide 2 shows normal dispersion and flat dispersion characteristics and has a specified amplification gain by addition of erbium. Light pulses having a parabolic profile are transmitted through the broad band waveguide 2 by the effects of self phase modulation, wavelength dispersion, and optical amplification to output broad band light with flat intensity distribution. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
