PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminiscent element optimizing a contact hole and a pixel interval to improve the luminance. SOLUTION: On a base plate 8 provided with transistors 9 and 10 formed thereon, a plurality of pixels including an interlayer dielectric film 13, a pixel electrode 2 connected to the transistors 9 and 10 via a metal embedded in the contact hole 14 formed on the interlayer dielectric film 13, and a positive electrode 3 that are laminated over one another is formed in a planar and matrix form. Further, organic layers 4, 5, 6, and a negative electrode 7 are laminated over one another on the electrode 3. The contact hole 14 has a diameter of 0.2 to 2μm, and an area ratio of 0.09 to 8.72% with respect to an area of the pixel electrode 2. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
