PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drive device for an elevator capable of minimizing the size of the brake device and making the drive device thin in the radial direction. SOLUTION: The drive device is equipped with an electric motor device 110, an input shaft 21 rotatably driven by the electric motor device 110, and a sheave 103 wound up with a rope 104 which lifts an elevator car by the transmission of the rotation of the input shaft 121. It is equipped with a first braking device 150 to urge the braking force to the input shaft side, and a second braking device 160 to apply the braking force to the output side of the sheave.
