PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and an ink ribbon capable of enhancing print quality and reliability by carrying a print medium surely, simplifying and enhancing the operation for setting/removing an ink ribbon, and making possible to perform printing while holding the ink ribbon at a fixed position. SOLUTION: A cassette holder 15 having a space holder section for drop-in housing to set an ink ribbon cassette 14 is provided rotatably through a shaft 26. The cassette holder 15 rotating around the shaft 26 can switch a position where the ink ribbon cassette 14 can be set removably in the space holder section and a set position where an ink ribbon 18 set in the space holder section is brought into such a state as touching on a ribbon protector 35.
