PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gimlet capable of easily cutting out a wooden plug to be inserted in a screw hole, nail hole or other hole on a plate surface as required. SOLUTION: A blade portion 2 whose cross-sectional shape is a part of a round cross section is formed at the tip part of a main portion 1 by cutting a part of the main portion 1 having a round cross section. A cutting edge 4 in the shape of a circular arc is formed at the end of the blade portion by forming the outer peripheral surface of the tip of the blade portion 2 into a tapered shape and boring a central hole 3. When a plate is cut into by using this gimlet, the cylindrical wooden plug is cut out by the cutting edge 4 in the shape of the circular arc. If the central hole 3 is made into a taper hole whose diameter is reduced from the tip to the base, a front end inner border 6 of the blade portion 2 serves as a cutting edge and can cut out the tapered wooden plug.
