PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a deionized water of high quality in its early stages when the operation of an electrically deionizing apparatus is resumed after the operation thereof is stopped. SOLUTION: The electrically deionizing apparatus is equipped with an anode chamber 17 having an anode 11, a cathode chamber 18 having a cathode 12, and concentration chambers 15 and desalting chambers 16 alternately formed by alternately arranging a plurality of anion exchange membranes 13 and cation exchange membranes 14 between the anode chamber 17 and the cathode chamber 18. During the stop of the operation of the electrically deionizing apparatus wherein the desalting chambers 16 are packed with an ion exchanger and the concentration chambers 15 are packed with an ion exchanger, activated carbon or an electric conductor, voltage is applied across the anode 11 and the cathode 12 to prevent the movement of ions. Further, the water in the concentration chamber after the stop of operation is substituted with water lower in the concentration of silica or boron than raw water. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
