PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for roasting a small amount of coffee beans, and to provide a device therefor. SOLUTION: This method for roasting a small amount of coffee beans in a vertically arranged cylindrical roasting chamber 4 comprises supplying unroasted coffee beans batch-wise to the roasting chamber and taking out therefrom after a roasting step, and the device therefor is provided. Roasting is performed by using a high-temperature air flow flowing through the roasting chamber 4, removing the roasted coffee beans from the roasting chamber 4 and cooling with a cold air flow. The roasting and cooling of the coffee beans are controlled by using a programable control unit, wherein at least combinations of parameters such as a roast-continuing time, a roast temperature and a volumetric flow rate of the high-temperature air are recorded in the control unit as selectable data records and the high-temperature air flow is made controlable by using a frequency-controlled side port compressor.
