A method for machining apertures into hollow structures, e.g. shaft bores for boilers, has the rotating tool (4) on a spindle drive set through a suction housing pressed against the hollow structure. The housing comprises a support plate (13) and intermediate rings (7, 8) incorporating a microswitch, which is closed when the system is pressed against the hollow structure, and a shaped ring (12) to press onto the hollow structure. The end of the rotating tool has a deflection plate (5) linked to a central air feed (10) and deflecting swarf and filings back into the suction housing from where it is removed via a suction connection (9) in the bottom of the housing.
