PURPOSE: A method for manufacturing an electron emitting device and an image display apparatus is provided to display an image of excellent uniformity. CONSTITUTION: An electron emitting device includes a pair of electrodes(2,3) formed on a substrate(1) and an electroconductive thin film(4) connected between the electrodes and having an electron emitting region(5). The substrate(1) formed with the electrodes(2,3) is subjected to a hydrophobic process using a silane coupling agent which contains two or more acetoxy groups in a molecule. Then, liquid droplets containing material for forming the electroconductive thin film(4) are dispensed to the substrate.
