PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve cycle characteristics of a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery using a minute porous polyolefinic membrane as a separator. SOLUTION: The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery is provided with a power generation element in which a negative electrode containing the negative electrode active material to store/release lithium and a positive electrode containing the positive electrode active material are laminated via the separator consisting of the minute porous polyolefinic membrane. By a nano indentation method, the separator is loaded by the maximum load made to be 100μN, and after that, a load-displacement curve is obtained by removing the load, and in the maximum displacement X (nm) of the separator in this load-displacement curve and the displacement Y (nm) of the separator in the case of removing the load, a relationship of 25≤(X-Y)/X×100≤100 is satisfied.
