A screen printing machine suitable for printing on curved articles such as bottles comprises a screen mounted in a frame 5 and adapted to be reciprocated in its own plane, and a feeding and mounting device 6 of turret construction rotatably mounted on an intermittently rotated shaft 7 and arranged to rotate each bottle into a registered position and to present it to the underside of the screen. The base of each bottle is located in a retaining ring such as 19 which is rotatably mounted in a disc on an annular member 10, the neck of the bottle being engaged by an element 22. This element is spring-loaded and is retracted in its lowermost position by cam means 33, 34 to allow the printed bottle to be removed. A device 30 allows adjustment of the elements to facilitate the printing of bottles of different size. At the indexed position of each bottle prior to the printing station, the bottle is rotated by an axially-movable adjusting device, Fig. 5 (not shown), including a rotatable shell which engages the ring 19. The bottle is rotated until an axial pin on the device engages a groove in the base of the bottle. In the printing position the ring 19 is engaged by a further axially movable shell, Fig. 4 (not shown). Said shell is mounted on a shaft which is geared to a rack mounted on the screen frame and moved by the main drive of the machine so that the bottle rotates as the screen is reciprocated. |
