A method of controlling a car, comprising the steps of, when the car is running in a direction reverse to a running direction determined by a shift position (SP), setting (S200), as a torque required for converging the vehicle speed of a vehicle having one occupant therein in a reverse direction (crawl down direction) to a specified vehicle speed, an adjusting torque (Ta) related to a road surface gradient (theta) based on a detected road surface gradient (theta), comparing the set adjusting torque (Ta) with a creep torque (Tc) set (S150) when the running state of the vehicle is within a creep torque output permission area, and outputting (S210, S220), as a motor torque (Tm), the larger torque from a motor, whereby the vehicle speed when the vehicle runs in the direction reverse to the running direction can be adjusted to the specified vehicle speed. |
