CONSTITUTION: A recording power control method for an optical recorder includes the steps of obtaining an initial optimum recording power as a reference by carrying out OPC(Optimum Power Calibration) normally, and seeking inner and outer peripheries of a disc respectively for obtaining respective FDL(Focus Drive Level) values and a difference therebetween. The FDL difference value is larger than a preset reference voltage, so that the disc is determined to be out of position upwardly or downwardly. At this time, the optimum recording power is obtained newly.
