An erasing apparatus for use with a thermochromic recording medium, comprising: a heating means for heating the thermochromic recording medium to an erasing temperature to erase an image printed on the thermochromic recording medium; a pressure means for pressing the thermochromic recording medium against the heating means; a temperature sensor for sensing a temperature of the pressure means; and an erasing condition control means which determines an erasing condition for the thermochromic recording medium based on the temperature of the pressure means, and which maintains the erasing temperature within a prescribed range.
