A method of manufacturing a filter cartridge 10 comprising continuously and simultaneously wrapping a filter 36 and outer support 40 around an inner support 20 and disposing the filter between the outer and inner supports. Preferably the inner support member is made from lockseam, polymeric or steel tube spirally wrapped and welded to withstand working pressures. Typically, the filter contains a filter medium such as mesh, membrane, perforated sheet, wire wrap or a porous body of particles coated and held together by a binder. In addition the filter may include drainage and cushioning layers. Preferably the outer support is made of stainless steel formed with openings through which the fluids to be filtered such as oil or gas can flow. Advantageously, the filter cartridge is used when filtering well fluids where a liquid or gas is removed from a subterranean environment. |
