The device has a switch that can be arranged on a base body of a plant and an actuating element on an auxiliary element of the plant that interact if the actuating element is not broken so a switch contact is opened if the actuating element is changed to a switch position by a mechanical mechanism. The switch contact and actuating element form part of a circuit that can be opened by the switch contact opening or by the actuating element breaking. The device has a switch (5) and an actuating element (7) for the switch. The switch can be arranged on a base body of a plant and the actuating element on an auxiliary element of the plant. The switch and actuating element interact if the actuating element is not broken so that a switch contact (6) is opened when the actuating element is changed to a switch position by a mechanical mechanism. The switch contact and actuating element form part of a circuit (8) that can be opened by the switch contact opening or by the actuating element breaking. An independent claim is also included for a system with a base body and an auxiliary element movable relative to the base body.
