[Also in Division F2] In a lawn mower including a cutting cylinder 50 and a roller 10, a disengageable friction drive to the roller comprises a driving wheel (23) (Fig. 3, not shown) manually movable into and out of frictional engagement with a driven wheel (12) forming an end plate of roller 10. The cutting cylinder 50 and a pulley 32 rigid with the driving wheel (23) are driven from a motor pulley 51 by a common belt 52 having a tensioning pulley 53. Pulley 32 and wheel (23) are rotatably carried by a casting 25 having a fixed pivot 38. Manual control via a Bowden cable 55 moves a lever 40, pivoted at 39 to casting 25, anticlockwise (Fig. 1) about a fixed fulcrum 43 to disengage wheel (23) from wheel (12) against the action of an engaging spring 46 acting on a lug 34 of casting 25. In a modification, the cutting cylinder is driven via a separate belt which may be tensioned to transmit drive by a manually controlled jockey pulley, or in a further modification, the cutting cylinder drive may include a friction drive according to the invention, or a clutch of known type. |
