Method and apparatus for making electrical connectors

Electrical connectors of the type comprising elongate contacts 179 arranged in though holes 199 in an insulating base 165 and extending from a first face 167 to the opposite face 166 are provided with solder portions such as balls 180,181 fused to the ends of the contacts at the first face by a method in which the solder portions are brought into alignment with the holes 199 by a carrier 172 with cavities 173,174 for the solder and are then fused. The carrier may have the form of a belt. The application also described the connector construction including edge formations for joining adjacent connectors and means for positioning the connector(s) on a circuit board.
