PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of joining structural members which joins the structural member having a plane section to the structural member consisting of hollow extruded shapes by lap friction agitation joining and makes it possible to easily obtain a defect-free sound joint part without using backing while making a weight lighter and workability better. SOLUTION: This method of joining the structural members comprises superposing the first structural member 5 having the plane section 5a on the second structural member 6 consisting of the hollow extruded shapes and subjecting the structural members to friction agitation joining while inserting a probe 3 from the first structural member 5 side and moving the probe 3 toward the longitudinal direction of the second structural member 6. The second structural member 6 is provided with a strut 6b for suppressing the bending of the first structural member 5 and the second structural member 6 by the thrusting force of the probe 3. |
