Concentrated black liquor with a dry substance content greater than 75 wt.% is supplied via a pressurised storage vessel to a final concentration step where its dry substance content is increased to over 85 % before being supplied to the soda oven. A process for treating black liquor which is to be burnt in a soda oven (21), preferably to maintain liquor properties and improve functioning of the oven, comprises: (a) supplying black liquor concentrated to a dry substance content greater than 75 wt.% to a pressurised storage vessel (9); (b) transferring of black liquor from the pressurised storage vessel to the final concentration step (14), where its dry substance content is increased to over 85 wt.% by heating it under pressure at a temperature greater than the b.pt. of the liquor at atmospheric pressure; and (c) transferring of black liquor from the final concentration step to the soda oven. |
