PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic controller which can correctly decide whether time data of a timer part are normal or abnormal. SOLUTION: In an ECU 10, a microcomputer 14 operates or stops according to a power supply state resulting from the switching of an IG switch 22. A timer IC 12 continues to clock the time irrelevantly to whether the microcomputer 14 operates or stops and is initialized to a specific value when reset. The range of the time clocking by the timer IC 12 is prescribed without including the specific value at the resetting time and when the time of the timer IC 12 deviates from the prescribed range, the microcomputer 14 decides that the timer IC 12 becomes abnormal. Further, the microcomputer 14 decides that a water temperature sensor 25 gets out of order according to the seek time computed from the timer data of the timer IC 12 and the detected value of the water temperature sensor 25 at the start of an engine, but inhibits the sensor fault decision making if the timer IC 12 becomes abnormal. |
