<p>A surface covering such as a carpet comprises a fire-resistant backing 12 and a pile 14 of unlooped fibres 16. The backing may comprise layers of woven glass fibre 18 and fire-resistant adhesive 20. A needled felt base layer 26 of polyaramide fibres may be bonded thereto. The pile is produced by driving the fibres 16 into the adhesive 20 by means of an electrostatic charge.</p> |
