A motor driven road roller comprises rollers 1 and 2 individually mounted for rotation in frames 3 and 7, the frame 3 being pivotally attached to a housing 6 for movement about a vertical axis 5, and the housing 6 being mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis or a cylindrical extension 7a of frame 7, the drive between the two rollers being by bevel gears 19, 20 which during steering of the roller pivot about an imaginary axis coinciding with axis 5. Steering is either manual or by a double acting hydraulic ram 25. A drive motor may be mounted or a forward extension of frame 7 to drive a gearwheel 11 which transmits this drive via chains 15 and 23 to the rollers.</p> |
