PURPOSE: A method and an apparatus for controlling a scanning rate and radiation intensity for forming a color image are provided to easily and finely vary the quantity of lights irradiated on a photosensitive drum without changing components or logic circuits. CONSTITUTION: The speed of revolution of a scanning motor is detected(10). Digital data corresponding to the detected speed of revolution is generated(12). The digital data is converted to an analog control value(14). The quantity of lights scanned by a polygon mirror driven by the scanning motor is varied in response to the analog control value(16).
